Hi friends! How are you? I hope you’re having an amazing week so far. We had to drag our mattress downstairs to sleep on the living room floor while they work upstairs, so sleep has been a little interesting lol, but other than that all is well here.
We’re making some huge improvements around the house for aesthetic and health purposes. When I found out our sofa and carpet both had mold, it was time for them to go. Water filtration is something that you can easily do for your health – I can do a post about my favorite filters for drinking! – but it’s easy to forget about the water you and your family use to bathe.
For today’s post, I wanted to talk about why you might want to filter your shower and bath water, and the best home shower filter that I’ve found: Canopy!
Why should you filter your shower and bath water?
When we shower, the water we use is absorbed into our skin, and we’re also breathing in the vapors of this water, often in an enclosed space. You can check out the quality of your local tap water here. (Tucson’s is horrible.)
Filtering bath and shower water offers several benefits for skin, hair, and overall health, including:
Skin Irritation Reduction: Chlorine and chloramines, commonly used in municipal water supplies, can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness, itchiness, and irritation. Filtering these chemicals can reduce the risk of these issues, leaving the skin feeling softer and more comfortable.
Mineral Deposits Reduction: Hard water, containing high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium, can leave deposits on the skin, causing it to feel dry and rough. Hard water also contains various dissolved metals, like aluminum, barium, strontium, iron, zinc, and manganese. Filtering hard water can prevent these mineral deposits, resulting in smoother, more hydrated skin.
Hair Health Improvement: Hard water can also leave mineral deposits on the hair, making it appear dull and lifeless. Filtering the water can help maintain the hair’s natural shine and vitality.
Eczema and Psoriasis Relief: For those with eczema or psoriasis, which can be exacerbated by exposure to certain chemicals and minerals in water, filtering the water can help alleviate symptoms and reduce flare-ups.
Reduced Risk of Allergic Reactions: Some individuals may be sensitive to chemicals like chlorine, which can trigger allergic reactions or exacerbate existing skin conditions. Filtering the water can help reduce the risk of these reactions.
Improved Lung Health: Filtering bath and shower water removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other harmful chemicals, reducing the risk of inhaling these substances and supporting lung health.
Long-Term Skin Health: Consistently using filtered water for bathing can help maintain the skin’s pH balance and reduce exposure to potentially harmful substances, promoting overall skin health in the long run.
the best shower water filter
I’ve been researching water filters for the past two years, and the one I wanted to use for our family is Canopy. The Canopy Shower Filter is designed to remove impurities from your shower water, resulting in a cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable showering experience.
Below are some pros and cons of the Canopy Shower Filter:
Pros:
Advanced Filtration Technology: The Canopy Shower Filter utilizes a multi-stage filtration process to remove contaminants such as chlorine, magnesium, calcium carbonate, iron, hydrogen sulfide, mercury, chromium, chloramine, harmful microbes, bacteria, fungi, and other contaminants. This results in water that is not only cleaner but also safer to use.
Enhanced Skin and Hair Health: By removing harsh chemicals and impurities from the water, the Canopy Shower Filter helps to prevent skin irritation and dryness, resulting in softer, smoother, and healthier skin. Additionally, it can improve the health and appearance of your hair, leaving it feeling and looking more vibrant.
Easy Installation: The Canopy Shower Filter is designed for easy installation, requiring no tools or plumbing expertise. Simply attach it to your showerhead, and you’re ready to enjoy cleaner, purer water! The Pilot was working, so it was very easy for me to install!
Long-lasting Filtration: The filter cartridges used in the Canopy Shower Filter are designed to last for 90 days, providing long-lasting filtration without the need for frequent replacements.
Cons:
Initial Cost: The Canopy Shower Filter has an upfront cost that may be higher than other shower filters on the market. However, its advanced filtration technology and long-lasting filter cartridges can provide value over time.
Limited Compatibility: The Canopy Shower Filter may not be compatible with all showerheads. Before purchasing, it’s essential to ensure that it will fit your existing showerhead or consider purchasing a compatible showerhead.
Requires Regular Maintenance: While the filter cartridges are long-lasting, they will need to be replaced periodically to maintain optimal filtration. This can be an added expense and requires attention to maintenance schedules.
My experience: (and the girls’ experience):
We all noticed an immediate difference in how our skin and hair feels. P said that her hair felt softer, and Liv, who is really starting to get into skincare, was 100% on board with how her skin feels. My hair felt lighter – no more heaviness – and I feel like it stayed clean longer after washing it. (I usually only wash my hair 2x a week) The water pressure was great – it has three settings- we all have very thick, long hair.
Aestethically, it’s SO pretty, too! I can’t wait to order one for our other shower.
